Some of you may know that for the last couple of years I've been working on the implementation of a personal learning environment, mPLE (m for manchester), so with the return of ALT-C to Manc and the first F-ALT in Manc we've decided to have a little show and tell on the Tuesday, right after the end of the official conference programme. Either in Uni Place where the official conference is, or next door in the School of Computer Science. The latter might be better, it will be cheaper for us to supply cold beer there :-). We will also have one or two people doing a continuous demo during Wed and some of Thursday for anyone who drifts into the demo room.

Are you using technology in your teaching and finding barriers at your Uni? Is your sanity slipping? Fancy a good whinge? Let’s meet one night to compare horror stories from the trenches, encourage each other and have some laughs.

"We'll scour the room for bugs, first. ;))" surely if your institution is technophobic, the only bugs are likely to have 6-8 legs and scurry about distractingly - either way a sweep sounds a good idea. :0)

While some events will undoubtedly take place in the pub (edubloggers meetup) and some might be fine in the main conference / exhibitors space perhaps we should consider securing some rooms too? I'd be happy to pick this up with the ALT conference organisers if it's something people want?
Let me have your thoughts, needs!

On the home page it says: "Lovely disclaimer: Although F-ALT is really lovely, we don't have any official connection to, relationship with, or endorsement of ALT or ALT-C. We don't have sponsors, budget, organisational structure, chair, committee, or mascot. This year we haven't even got a replacement logo. All we have are lots of poorly conceived suggestions for pig related logos." (Can I put this in italics??)
Do we have a badge this year ?? Last year's was cool.

I'm struggling to get a wiki off the ground and if anyone's going to lead the way in sharing it has to be F-ALT. See the way I slipped a compliment in there:-)
At http://altc2008.wikispaces.com I'm trying to collect views on the conference as I have the 'honour' of writing a review of ALT-C for the ALT newsletter. I'll definitely be including F-ALT in the review so I'd like to hear your views on this and the conference as a whole... pulease!

Or at least it's not raining, yet. Any scope for moving some of the sessions outside?
The Chancellor's (or Dean's maybe.. I can't remember) Garden .. between Roger Stevens and Bragg Cluster .. might be good.

This is going to be our 4th ALT-C (& 1st F-ALT) Edubloggers Meetup. Do people want a very informal meeting over beers or would some kind of show and tell or ambient game be a good idea?

I'm guessing we'll back channel? We could use the hashtag + Twitter to post our personal picks? Also, the crowdvine platform should be handy. Although if we do all go to the same sessions then microblogging is less interesting. If people are presenting/supporting they could post here.

Ahhh! Woooh! What's happening? Who am I? Why am I here? What's my purpose in life? What do I mean by who am I? Okay okay, calm down calm down get a grip now. Ooh, this is an interesting sensation. What is it? Its a sort of tingling in my... well I suppose I better start finding names for things. Lets call it a... tail! Yeah! Tail! And hey, what's this roaring sound, whooshing past what I'm suddenly gonna call my head? Wind! Is that a good name? It'll do. Yeah, this is really exciting. I'm dizzy with anticipation! Or is it the wind? There's an awful lot of that now isn't it? And what's this thing coming toward me very fast? So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like 'Ow', 'Ownge', 'Round', 'Ground'! That's it! Ground! Ha! I wonder if it'll be friends with me? Hello Ground! [dies]
FailWhale is lucky, he had his little tweet chums to support him.
